The standard iPhone 17 is the most affordable in the series to repair. The aluminium frame (vs titanium on the Pro) is easier to work with, and the smaller 6.1" display keeps screen costs below the Pro Max's 6.9". Apple's pricing is competitive on screen ($289) and back glass ($119).
Common issues
Less than a year old — early bench observations.
Cracked display from drops (6.1" Super Retina XDR with Ceramic Shield)
Face ID failure after budget screen replacement
Back glass cracks from drops
USB-C port debris / lint accumulation causing intermittent charging
Face ID warning
Face ID is paired to the logic board — same as the Pro models. Apple authorised service and quality independent shops can preserve it. Budget shops may break it permanently. Ask before committing to any screen replacement. The standard iPhone 17 is otherwise one of the more DIY-friendly iPhones — aluminium frame, flat display, well-documented teardown.
